Community Engagement

Local Community Focused

Ahrens aligns with six key pillars that form our community engagement activities and ensures we are committed to having a positive and meaningful impact on the rural communities in which we operate.

The company does this by contributing heavily to sporting groups, including at grassroots level, youth engagement and local fundraisers and causes through sponsorship, donations of rural infrastructure and in-kind contributions.

Ahrens people actively participate in monthly fundraisers, including Causal for a Cause and donating money to a cause and wearing casual clothes.

Our people are also encouraged to nominate a local charity or cause close to their heart through our Employee Donation Scheme to receive a donation from Ahrens on their behalf.

Our wide-reaching locations

With approximately 90 per cent of our workforce based outside of capital cities, we are committed to supporting regional and remote communities. Our employees and their families have developed strong networks in regional areas, through their school, social and sporting affiliations.

Supporting the communities in which we work extends to project work and we regularly donate structural steel or work in-kind on construction projects in support of worthy causes. In this way, we have supported Ronald McDonald House, Barossa Enterprises and the Salvation Army and many other organisations that help improve the lives of people in need.

Ahrens has long supported grassroots sporting groups and local causes through sponsorship, donations and in-kind contributions. This culture of giving is supported by Ahrens employees who enthusiastically participate in fundraisers for various nominated charities and cause.

Medical Research

As part of our commitment to partnering with professional in the health field to improve prevention, detection and treatment of life-threatening diseases, Ahrens has given a significant amount of financial support to critical research programs to improve treatment outcomes for patients.

Ahrens is focused on empowering and supporting all young people by connecting them with opportunities to reach their full potential and to succeed. The next generation is important to our future, and Ahrens firmly believes every young person should have the same opportunities to flourish and succeed.

We are committed to working towards closing the gap in employment equality between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous Australians. We will continue to promote Ahrens as a safe and inclusive workplace, with a focus on the right person for the job, regardless of race, religion and culture.

We are passionate about improved mind health for everyone by shifting the narrative. Ahrens strives to be a leader in creating an environment where every individual feels that their health and wellbeing is important. This is what it means to be part of the Ahrens family.

Our Environment

Ahrens understands the vital role we have to play in protecting and maintaining our environmental resources for future generations. This includes the application of innovative design and construction techniques, being aware of the use of materials and resources, and implementing environmental efficiencies across all our work sites.

Ahrens connected with SA children’s charity Kickstart for Kids in 2017 by donating all the breakfast food, plus two staff members every Thursday and Friday of the school term to support disadvantaged students from a
Gawler school.

Much like the charity’s foundations, Ahrens’ philosophy is focused on empowering and supporting all young people it employs by connecting them with opportunities to reach their full potential to succeed.

Currently, Ahrens has a dedicated pool of people who volunteer their early mornings on a rotating roster, and enjoy the social interaction with the young people.

Each year when our people mark their first anniversary with Ahrens they are encouraged to support their local community through our unique in-house Employee Donation Scheme.

The initiative enables the individual to nominate a charity or cause they are passionate about to receive a donation from Ahrens on their behalf.

On the last Friday of each month our people are encouraged to wear casual clothes in exchange for a gold coin donation to support Ahrens Causal for a Cause fundraiser.

All monies are donated to charities, with the theme in line with current events and causes close to our people and communities’ hearts.

Ahrens’ lengthy affiliation with the globally recognised Duke of Edinburgh Ambassador Program is the company’s way of supporting young people to build their confidence through organised ventures.

Ahrens’ generosity is powered by its workforce through their support and hard work, with the program aligning with the company’s engagement pillar of focusing on youth engagement.

Ahrens has made a commitment with Trees for Life through their revegetation program. The plant species introduced will be native to the area with each planting area a mixture of trees and scrubs.

Royal Flying Doctor Service

Ahrens has been a long time supporter of the Royal Flying Doctor Service all across Australia, and continues to support their operations in helping rural Australians access timely medical assistance.

This has been a partnership of not only financial support, but also assistance in building facilities such as the patient transfer facility and ambulance bay in Mount Gambier and an office and hangar at the Darwin International Airport.
